Buxton Talking Newspaper
Listeners
We provide our service to blind and partially sighted listeners, and to those who have difficulty accessing the written word, living in the area covered by the ‘Buxton Advertiser’, i.e. primarily Buxton and the towns and villages of the central High Peak area, including Whaley Bridge, Chapel-en-le-Frith, New Mills, Chinley and Hayfield. If listeners move away we can continue sending our recordings to them so they keep up-to-date with life in the area.
We visit listeners when they first join us to explain how we work and loan them a small, easy to use USB player. We leave them with a phone number so they can contact us if they have any problems. Each week we send them a recording of the Buxton Advertiser in a special yellow pouch, which should be returned within two weeks. The memory stick and pouch for the Magazine are blue and should be returned within a month. The different colours help people with some sight and our volunteers.
If you, or anyone you know, would like to sample our productions, please go to the link on the Buxton Advertiser or Magazine page. To receive either the Advertiser or Magazine, or both, please contact us by phone or email. Details are on the Contacts page.
